There's a big difference between late Sept./Oct. It's a good idea to spend time along the Oregon Coast, especially if you'll be coming late in the fall when the weather inland can be challenging (although you should expect rain anywhere and everywhere). You'll be covering a lot of territory, but can do so quite nicely in a 10-14 day period. The Oregon Caves are on #199 between Grants Pass and Crescent City, so can be added to your itinerary easily if you have an extra few hours (although I'm not sure they're a "must see"). I don't think Lassen is worth the extra travel time. Oregon has plenty of volcanic mountains and lava fields for you to explore. Without getting into specifics, I would knock Lassen off your list. My first question is, "how late in the fall are you planning to visit?" This is a serious weather-related question, since access to Crater Lake and other mountain travel might be a factor.
